For some of us, it is important to find out how tall is Harry Potter in the books we all read. Harry is roughly 1.68 meters tall or 5’6″ in American terms, which is shorter than the average height for an adult male in the United Kingdom (1.78 meters)!
Harry Potter and other characters grow up throughout the series and books.
When they receive their Hogwarts letters, they are just 11 years old. Harry grows taller after puberty. He ends up being about 5’11”.
Despite being on the shorter side, Harry always felt good about himself. Whether it was that he often won sports games, or that he tried his best despite not measuring up to expected standards. Instead of wearing unflattering clothes, he invested in staple items that fit him well and gave him confidence.
Harry seems to be shorter in the movies than he is described in the novels. Some fans take this to mean Harry Potter was closer to 5’8″, while others postulate that he may have been taller.

Albus Dumbledore
There is no doubt that Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, has made a significant contribution to the wizarding world at with that he also stands at about 6’3.
The actor who plays Dumbledore in the last films, Michael Gambon, is 6’1″.
Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger is one of the main protagonists in the Harry Potter series. Hermione is a Muggle-born witch and acts as an older sister to Harry and Ron. She has brown hair and brown eyes, wears her hair in a long pigtail, and is often described as bossy but she always means well.
Ever since the establishment of the Muggle-Born Registration Commission, Hermione has had to register. Her Ministry file claims she is 5’5″ and 118lbs. This coincides with Emma Watson who starred as her in the film adaptations.
Ron Weasley
Ron may not have been as popular of a star as his other friends, but he is the character that resonates most because he embodies that ‘smart but awkward’ characteristic that we all share.
He’s described as quite tall and lanky. The average estimate of Ron’s height is anywhere from 6’1” to 6’5”. With there being a 5″ height difference between him and the actor who plays Ron, Rupert Grint, it seems improbable that he would be this tall.
Neville Longbottom
The boy is described as round-faced, short, and plump.” J.K. Rowling once said he was “blond and short.” At only 5’7″, this may seem odd; but keep in mind the actor who plays Neville, Matthew Lewis, is actually 6 feet tall.
Luna Lovegood
Whether you want to believe it or not, Luna Lovegood is a prime example of what most of us are striving for. Beyond her confidence in herself, she also refuses to change who she is, even when others pick at it.
Yes, she is also odd and somewhat eccentric. But that only makes her all the more lovable. Her hair is described as straggly and dirty-blond, and her face is described as dazed.
Evanna Lynch, the actress who portrays her in the Harry Potter movies, is about 5’2″ tall.
Remus Lupin
Although Sirius Black, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew were best friends at Hogwarts, Remus Lupin was a close friend of theirs too. Lupin also suffered from lycanthropy, meaning he turned into a werewolf. In his wizard form, Lupin was about 6’2″ tall.
Lily Potter
It is debated but Lily Potter is known for her love and sacrifice to save baby Harry from Lord Voldemort. She was a talented, kind witch who was about 5’6” in height, just like the actress who played her, Geraldine Somerville.
James Potter
Harry’s father, James Potter, was a troublemaker at Hogwarts who eventually matured. His personable ways made him popular while there and helped him succeed as an adolescent. When he was finally asked to leave the school he studied at, he completed his education with the study of magic on his own.
Sirius Black
Sirius Black had a strong relationship with his best friends James Potter, Lily Potter, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Harry Potter’s godfather.
A tall, handsome man with long, dark hair, he was described as tall and handsome. However, after 12 years in Azkaban, his good looks faded and he looked well beyond his years of mistreatment and abuse.
Some say that Sirius Black was around 5’11”, but he’s thought to be closer at around 6’2″. It may be that people confused his actor’s height, Gary Oldman, who is 5’9″, with Sirius.
Severus Snape
Severus Snape was a brilliant professor and wizard. He attended Hogwarts at the same time as James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew, but they weren’t friends; in fact, they often bullied him.
It’s said that Severus was about 5’9″, but he was also notably shorter than Sirius. Alan Rickman, was 6’1″.
Lord Voldemort
Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort), the most powerful Dark Wizard who ever lived, is shorter than you’d expect because Ralph Fiennes, the actor who portrays him, is 5’11” tall.
Voldemort was not actually 6 foot 3. He is described as a tall, slender man. It’s also worth noting that his new body may have been taller and skinnier than his previous one.
Draco Malfoy
The only child of Lucius and Narcissa, Draco Malfoy is Harry Potter’s sworn enemy. Draco is taller than Harry, but not by much. Tom Felton, who plays Draco (or had played Draco), is 5′ 9″.
Bellatrix Lestrange
Lord Voldemort’s most loyal servant is Bellatrix Lestrange. She has thick, dark hair and heavily hooded eyes like other witches in her family. For some time before the events of the first book, she was imprisoned in Azkaban – but this did not make her more merciful or less dangerous.
Whereas the actress playing Bellatrix Lestrange, Helena Bonham Carter is 5 feet 2 inches tall, the character she played in the movie was about 6 foot 0.
Horace Slughorn
Horace Slughorn is a wizard and Hogwarts professor, who was shown to Tom Riddle that it was possible to split one’s soul into seven Horcruxes.
In the movies, he is portrayed as tall and straight-backed, but in reality, he is short and fat. Although Professor Slughorn often stands in high positions (such as behind a podium), his height is never more than about 5 feet.
Filius Flitwick
As a Half-goblin, Filius Flitwick was only about two and a half feet tall.
Even though Ron was a minority in his youth, he treated his students with equality and fairness. This is illustrated by the actor Warwick Davis playing him- even though Davis himself is short, he feels honored to play such a great role model.
Rubeus Hagrid
Hagrid was half-giant, half-wizard and so, naturally, he was quite tall. The only thing stopping him from being an even bigger giant was that he wasn’t born in a world filled with giants. We like Hagrid a lot because we see how kind and compassionate he is. Surely you do too!
Dolores Umbridge
Dolores Umbridge is the headmistress of Hogwarts, but there’s more to her than meets the eye. She might be sweet and calm on the outside, but is cruel and abusive. She can be quite a little tyrant at times.
Arthur Weasley
Arthur Weasley is a pureblood wizard husband to Molly Weasley and father to the seven Weasley children. Despite his pure-blood status, he gave up believing in the superiority of purebloods –– that muggles and less privileged witches and wizards were lower than he was.
He’s mysteriously said to be “a thin man, going bald, but the little hair on his head is as red as any of his children’s. His dearest wish is to find out how Muggle airplanes stay up.” He’s about 6’2 and the actor who plays him, Mark Williams, is 6’1.
Molly Weasley
Molly Weasley is the selfless mother of the Weasley children and the wife of Arthur Weasley. She is about 5’3 and has a kind smile that seems to suit her round-faced figure.
The actress who played Molly, Julia Walters, is around the same height as her character.
Bill Weasley
Bill Weasley was the oldest of the Weasley siblings. He stood about 6’3″ (1.91 m) tall and married Fleur Delacour.
Charlie Weasley
Charlie, aka “Uncle Charlie” was the second oldest Weasley sibling. Unlike his siblings, he wasn’t very tall; he only reached about 5’7″. Upon graduating from Hogwarts, Uncle Charlie and one of his friends went to Romania to study dragons.
Percy Weasley
Though he shared the same last name, Percy Weasley was worlds apart from his twin brothers Fred and George. Unlike them, he worked at the Ministry of Magic and wasn’t interested in playing pranks or jokes. He stood a little over 6’1″.
Ginny Weasley
Ginny Weasley is one of seven, red-haired children and the only girl. J.K. Rowling describes her as “tough, not in an unpleasant way, but gutsy”, and “warm and compassionate”. Although she had a few different love interests during her time at Hogwarts, Ginny eventually became interested in Harry Potter, and the two eventually got married.
Ginny is a little taller than the average girl with a height of 5’6”. This helps because the actor who plays her, Bonnie Wright, shares that same height.
Fred and George Weasley
Fred and George Weasley are two rebel twins who enjoy pulling pranks and playing jokes on others. These troublemakers left Hogwarts when Dolores Umbridge was in charge and opened a joke shop called “Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes”.
Fred and George are both 6 feet, 3 inches tall. It makes it even harder to tell them apart when they’re that close.
