There are a lot of theories out there about the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. Some say it’s based on a Stephen King book, while others believe it’s inspired by a true story.
So what’s the truth? It turns out that the answer is a little bit of both.
The Duffer Brothers, who created the show, have said that they were heavily influenced by Stephen King novels like “It” and “The Shining”. However, they have also said that the show is not directly based on any one book or story.
So while Stranger Things may not be a direct adaptation of a particular book, it’s safe to say that books were a big inspiration for the show. If you’re a fan of Stranger Things, be sure to check out some of the books that may have inspired it.

Stranger Things Influences
Stranger Things is heavily influenced by the work of Stephen King, particularly his novels “It” and “Firestarter”.
The Duffer Brothers have also cited Richard Matheson’s “I Am Legend” as an influence. Other works that have influenced Stranger Things include John Carpenter’s “The Thing”, Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, and George A. Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead”.
“Stranger Things” Novels
The Netflix original series Stranger Things is not based on a book, but there are several novels that have been released that are inspired by the show. These books are:
- Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds by Gwenda Bond
Terry Ives takes part in the most important experiment of her life, and the consequences have a huge impact on Eleven. When she realizes she’s pregnant, Terry is afraid to tell doctors about it for fear that the experiments will affect her unborn baby.
However, doctors won’t let her out of the experiments once she’s signed on- so whether or not there are any side effects remains to be seen.
- Stranger Things: Darkness on the Edge of Town by Adam Christopher
Written by Adam Christopher, this second book in the series focuses primarily on Jim Hopper. The story starts in Hawkins, the day after Eleven disappeared, with her asking Hopper to tell her a story.
He tells the story of one of his strangest and most challenging cases, as both a police detective in New York City and fill-in father for an (at first) reluctant Mike Wheeler.
- Stranger Things: Into the Fire by Paul Dichter
Once, nine was left behind and in a coma due to her terrifying time at Hawkins Lab. Now she lives in a reality of her own creation where she’s under the watchful eye of doctors who don’t understand what’s happening inside her psychic mind.
The results are devastating: when her power erupts it doesn’t just destroy their hospital, but all of their memories as well.
- Stranger Things: Runaway Max by Brenna Yovanoff
“Runaway Max” is the third Stranger Things novel. It gives all the backstory you need about our favorite character, Max Mayfield before she enters Hawkins Lab. Though it’s a stand-alone, it’s a must-read for any Stranger Things fan or those who enjoy supernatural fiction.
These novels offer fans of the show new adventures with their favorite characters, as well as new insights into the world of Hawkins, Indiana, and the Upside Down.
If you’re looking for more ways to get your Stranger Things fixed, these books are definitely worth checking out!
Stranger Things Graphic Novels and Comics
Stranger Things is a Netflix original series that has gained a massive following since it premiered in 2016. The show is set in the 1980s and follows the disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers. His mother, Joyce, and his friends, Dustin, Lucas, and Mike, search for him while facing supernatural forces that they don’t understand.
The story of Stranger Things has been adapted into several graphic novels and comics. The first adaptation was released in 2017 by Dark Horse Comics. It was written by Jody Houser and illustrated by Stefano Martino.
The second adaptation was released in 2018 by IDW Publishing. It was written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez.
Both of these adaptations are excellent ways to experience the story of Stranger Things if you’re unable to watch the show. They both do an excellent job of capturing the feel of the show while also expanding on the lore and mythology.
If you’re a fan of Stranger Things, then I highly recommend checking out one or both of these graphic novel adaptations.
What is the Montauk Project?
The Montauk Project is a controversial and allegedly secret government project that took place at the Montauk Air Force Station on Long Island, New York.
The project was allegedly designed to experiment with time travel, mind control, and other forms of paranormal activity. The project is said to have been started in the early 1970s and continued into the 1980s.
There have been many rumors and speculation about the project, but very little hard evidence has emerged to support its existence.
Stranger things season 5
Stranger Things Season 5 will be released on Netflix in 2024. The Duffer Brothers, who created the show, have said that they are planning for the show to last four or five seasons.
In Stranger Things Season 5, the characters will be dealing with the aftermath of the events of Season 4. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) will be struggling to come to terms with her powers and what happened to her friends.
Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Will (Noah Schnapp) will be trying to rebuild their relationship. And everyone will be dealing with the return of the Upside Down.
The Duffer Brothers have said that they want each season of Stranger Things to feel like a movie and that they have a clear idea of where they want the story to go. So we can expect big things from Stranger Things Season 5.
